Butt Prints in the Sand

Life is short, eternity is long, and hell is hot.

News flash, God has a work for you.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

Let's get right to this verse. You and I were saved to work, not to work for our salvation, but to work it out. This work is a "good work." You see, what God creates is always good.  Read Genesis 1. And the kicker is God commands us to "walk in" this good work. The bottom line, doing nothing is not an option. We were not saved to sit and soak, rather stand and serve.

The time is now to walk in those God plans. The invitation is staggering. The creator of the universe has a particular work for you. The time is now to get busy, time is running out, and excuses are going stale.

Some of us grew up on the poem "Footprints in the Sand." The story of when Jesus carried a man during the hard times. Being carried by Jesus is awesome and so needed at times. But sometimes, we need to stand up, dust off our backside, and get after the work God has designed.

Here is a not-so-famous poem that speaks to this urgency. It is called "Butt Prints in the Sand."

One night I had a wondrous dream,

One set of footprints there was seen,

The footprints of my precious Lord,

But mine were not along the shore.

But then some strange prints appeared,

And I asked the Lord, “What have we here?

Those prints are large and round and neat,

But Lord, they are too big for feet.”

“My child,” He said in somber tones,

“For miles I carried you alone.

I challenged you to walk in faith,

But you refused and made me wait.

“You disobeyed, you would not grow,

The walk of faith, you would not know,

So I got tired, I got fed up,

And there I dropped you on your butt.

Because in life, there comes a time,

When one must fight, and one must climb,

When one must rise and take a stand,

Or leave their butt prints in the sand.
