God’s Will For Your Life
Christians are weird.
I am not talking about Peter’s comment we are “aliens and strangers.” I mean we are just weird sometimes. I can say this because I am one of them.
Let me explain. The best example is when it comes to discovering God’s will. Face it super oil tankers of ink have been spilled on this subject and it still sounds as mysterious as exploring the Titanic. Even worse, since us Christians think the will of God is hidden then the more we struggle finding it, the more spiritual we must be. That’s weird.
I ask you, why would God hide what he wants? Does God get glory from our frustration? Would it not make more sense if he just wrote down exactly what he wants us to do? Well, he did,
God’s Word is God’s will.
Now read it backward’s slowly, God’s will is God’s Word. Now go live your life and stop over spiritualizing every decision you make. I am pretty confident the Lord is not sipping on Maalox regarding your decision whether to buy a Honda or a Toyota.
Paul brings clarity when he describes the will of God in Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” The will of God is good, acceptable and perfect but not hidden. There are three fundamental words or questions to discover the will of God.
1. ACTIVE: Is the Spirit of God active in my life?
Ephesians 5:17-18 states, Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.
God’s will is for the Holy Spirit to have total access to your life. A Spirit-filled life happens when you are in God’s Word, with God’s people, and serving God’s world. You live a Spirit-filled life; you will discover God’s will.
2. ALTERED: Are God’s Scriptures altering my life?
I Thessalonians 4:3a, 7 explains, For this is the will of God, your sanctification……For God has not called us for impurity but in holiness.
God’s will for your life is holiness. Stop chasing the Happy Spirit; he does not exist because God focuses on your holiness, not happiness. You choose to live according to the Word of God, and you will discover God’s will.
3. AUTHORITY: Is my life surrendered to authority?
Peter writes in I Peter 2:13-15, Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
You submit in both attitude and action to those God has placed over you, you will discover God’s will. Ok, if you and those who know you well answer yes to each of these questions, get ready, here is God’s will for you,
Do whatever you want to do.
No hidden eggs and no GPS needed. God has given you his Spirit, word, church, free will and a brain it is time to use all of them.
The next move is yours.
